Organisations that invest in wellbeing and mental health support for their employees are able to reduce this cost significantly. The most recent workplace mental health research from Deloitte (2024/25) reports that the cost to UK employers of poor mental health remains at approximately £51 billion per year. While this represents a slight reduction from the pandemic peak of £55 billion in 2021, it remains higher than pre-pandemic levels (£45 billion in 2019), demonstrating that workplace mental health pressures remain persistent and structural rather than temporary. Presenteeism continues to be the largest contributor, where people work despite mental ill-health and are unable to perform at their full capacity. This is now estimated to cost UK employers around £24 billion annually, reflecting sustained productivity loss across sectors. 46% of working parents report being concerned about their children’s mental health, with this pressure costing UK employers around £8 billion per year through reduced performance, increased absenteeism, and parents leaving roles altogether. Around 63% of employees report experiencing at least one characteristic of burnout, including emotional exhaustion, mental distance from work, and reduced professional efficacy. Burnout among employees — such as feelings of exhaustion, disengagement from work, and declining performance — became more pronounced during the pandemic and has remained elevated into 2025, driven by workload intensity, role ambiguity, cost-of-living pressures, and reduced recovery time. Employer-led measures to improve mental wellbeing not only benefit employees themselves but also reduce organisational costs, including recruitment, absence, and turnover, while contributing to broader societal wellbeing.       <image:caption>Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognised training course that teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill-health and provides support on a first aid basis. It forms a core part of Beingworks’ corporate wellbeing and mental health training model. The courses are delivered by instructors who have attended MHFA England’s Instructor Training Programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health. Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAider®) have: - An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing. - Practical skills to spot triggers and signs of mental health issues. - Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress. - Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening. - Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix. Train as a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®) and receive three years of certification, plus access to ongoing benefits. This course is ideal for individuals who would like to become an MHFAider® to gain the knowledge and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health, be confident to start a conversation and signpost a person to appropriate support. In addition to the course, you will become part of the largest MHFAider® community in England, gaining access to resources, ongoing learning and 24/7 digital support through our MHFAider Support App®, to give you the tools and knowledge you need to carry out the role effectively and confidently, whether that be in your workplace, a volunteer role, or in the community. Online or face-to-face course structured across four flexible sessions. Each session is a maximum of 3hrs 45mins and sessions can be delivered within a two week period. Learners will be trained over four live sessions with an MHFA England Instructor Member, covering 14 hours of content in total. Learning takes place through a mix of instructor led training, group discussions, individual and group activities. Each session builds on the previous, enabling the learner to gain confidence in supporting others with a Mental Health First Aid action plan. We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that instructors can keep people safe and supported while they learn. On completion of the online and face to face courses, each attendee will get :- A hard copy workbook to support their learning throughout the course  A digital manual to refer to whenever they need it after completing the course  A wallet-sized reference card with the Mental Health First Aid action plan   A digital MHFAider® certificate   Access to the MHFAider Support App® for three years  Access to ongoing learning opportunities, resources and exclusive events    The opportunity to be part of the largest MHFAider® community in England  MHFA England and Beingworks strive to create courses and resources that everyone can access.
